Close the Gap

A missing-child case does not usually fail for lack of data. It fails because nobody has time to read it.

Somewhere in a police department's file, in a phone dump, in a set of public listings, the information that would move a case forward already exists. What is missing is not evidence. It is the hours of a trained analyst who can sit with fragmented data long enough to turn it into a lead — and in a department carrying dozens of open cases, those hours do not exist. That is the gap. It is the only thing standing between what is already known about a missing child and what an investigator can act on.

We work missing-child cases listed publicly by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, and the stuck and cold cases police departments send us. Former intelligence officers, analysts and investigators turn scattered data into leads a detective or federal investigator can act on — usually within days. Every hour of that work is provided to law enforcement at no charge, and no agency has ever been asked to pay.

Those numbers were built in four months by people who were not paid for them. That is the proof the method works. It is also the reason it cannot grow on goodwill alone: every case we take on is another set of analyst hours, and the cases that go unread are not hypothetical. They are on a public list today.

What closing the gap looks like

Give

Support goes to analyst capacity and to the technology that lets one analyst do the work of several — the difference between reading a handful of cases a month and reading all of them.

Double it

Many employers match charitable gifts. We are registered and verified for corporate matching, so an hour you fund can become two.

To a congregation, a service club, a team meeting. Most people have never been told that this work exists, or that it is free to the departments who use it.

A child's case does not wait for funding to arrive. Neither does the work — but how much of it we can do is decided by what reaches us this month.
